This ECO Canada webinar, presented in collaboration with the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA Canada), provides a structured strategy for maximizing the effectiveness of energy retrofits by focusing on the building envelope.
Following a brief introduction, the session underscores Canada’s need for approximately 600,000 retrofits to meet national emissions reduction goals. Andy Cockburn of NAIMA Canada explains that controlling heat, air, and moisture is critical for successful retrofits.
The presentation outlines a three-step approach: conducting comprehensive energy audits to establish performance baselines, setting retrofit targets such as Passive House or Net Zero standards, and designing high-performance building assemblies with appropriate insulation, airtightness, and material choices before incorporating mechanical systems and renewable energy solutions.
