Speaker: Ahsan Syed
Project Origination Lead - Carbon Upcycling Technologies

Ahsan is a carbon and energy decarbonization specialist with 10+ years of experience across a broad range of climate-related verticals, including renewable energy (hydrogen, waste-to-energy, biofuels, biogas, CCUS), climate policy and corporate net-zero strategies. His broad experience in the environmental industry was developed through various consulting roles with Cap-Op Energy (now Radicle BMO), SYSTEMIQ and ERM. Ahsan was most recently with ATCO’s Clean Energy Team as a senior advisor of strategy, where he led several techno-economic and macroeconomic studies on the export markets for renewable ammonia, hydrogen’s role as a transport fuel, and pathways to reduce the carbon intensity of large-scale hydrogen production. Prior to that, Ahsan split his time across various clean technology startups and project developers between Canada, the US, the UK and Sweden, advising on commercial strategy, carbon reduction monetization, financial modelling and fundraising, and grant writing. Ahsan is now focused on decarbonizing the cement industry as a project origination lead with Carbon Upcycling.

Application Specialist, Environment Solutions - Spartan Controls

Olivia is an Application Specialist with Spartan Controls on the Environment Solutions team. Olivia has experience leading funding program initiatives and assisting industry partners with their emissions reduction goals through the deployment of Spartan’s clean technology portfolio. She graduated from the University of Calgary with an Energy Engineering degree and also holds a Petroleum Engineering Technology diploma from SAIT Polytechnic. Olivia leads the Green Team at Spartan Controls which focuses on reducing Spartan’s footprint across each of their 14 facilities.
