Speaker: Nick Barnes
President - Barnes Environmental Consulting

Nick Barnes is the President and founder of Barnes Environmental Consulting, established in 2018 after a decades-long career in environmental planning, regulatory assessment, and consulting across Canada. With a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Waterloo and an M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology from the University of Manitoba, he began his career as a fisheries field biologist before moving into aquatic science and project management roles in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including work on major dam and reservoir projects that helped shape environmental approvals legislation. He later served as an environmental planner and project manager at Manitoba Hydro, leading assessments and regulatory approvals for major hydroelectric developments. Through his firm, Nick now provides environmental assessment, regulatory approvals, and training services to clients nationwide, offering specialized expertise grounded in extensive field and regulatory experience.
